Join local US Forest Service Soil's Scientist who will review the basics of rocks and minerals, simple identification skills, and dive into how to interpret the geologic history of an area using your observation skills. We are proud to partner with Tread of Pioneers Museum who will share the history of the former Mad Creek Guest Ranch and pioneer families of the area and Historic Routt County who will shed light on the iconic Mad Creek Barn!

Meeting Time: 8:45 am (wrapping up by 1 pm)
Meeting Location: Mad Creek Trail Head parking lot
Cost: $25
What to wear: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! You'll most likely want long pants/sleeves to protect yourself from the sun, dirt, and things that might make you itchy (mosquitos etc.). Avoid cotton when you’re able and go with a synthetic material or wool.
Also remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen!
What to bring in your day pack: 2 Water bottles (2 liters or more), snacks, lunch, extra layers (long sleeve shirt, fleece) and also bring your waterproof jacket!
