Summary

Join a Yampatika Naturalist for a full moon "moonlight" snowshoe tour! We start as the sun is setting and hope that the sky will be clear to view the full moon from a meadow before heading back down by the light of the moon!

Description

Yampatika's Moonlight Snowshoe tour winds up Emerald Mountain with hopes of clear skies and great views of the moon and stars! Naturalists share local and natural history along a moderate snowshoe tour that is about 1.5 miles total. This program runs no matter what the weather brings and past participants have enjoyed the tour rain, snow, or shine! Ages 18+

Important details:

  • Cost: $20 (includes snowshoes if needed - please indicate when signing up if you will need them)
  • Location: Emerald Mountain
  • Where do you meet: Meeting location is sent in confirmation email (about 1/4 mile from the library).
  • What time and how long is the tour: Meet at the trailhead at 5:00 pm (this is 15 min before program start time). The tour will start at 5:15 pm and last about 2 hours.
  • What to wear: (you will be warm snowshoeing up as the sun sets – but bring extra layers, as it will get cold!)
    • Waterproof winter boots and wool socks
    • Waterproof pants or gators over your pants
    • Dress in layers and avoid cotton!
    • Wear warm hat and gloves/mittens
  • What to bring in your daypack:
    • Water bottles (1-2 liters) and snacks help when it’s cold
    • Extra layers (fleece or down jacket, and a waterproof/windproof jacket, thick mittens)
    • Hand/toe warmers (optional for people who get cold hands/feet)
    • Bring a headlamp if you have one in case the sky is overcast!
