Meeting time/location

Meet 8:45 AM at the US Forest Service Office

925 Weiss Drive, Steamboat Springs, CO, 80487

We will arrange a carpool and caravan out to the trailhead leaving at 9:00 AM arrival at the site should be about 9:20 am, we will return to the trailhead around 11:00 AM which is only a few miles away from downtown.

Our destination will be Dry Lake area likely Fiddlehead Trail, up on Buffalo Pass.

DURATION AND DIFFICULTY OF HIKE: Gently paced with opportunities to stop and talk about interesting things along the trail and work with camera's, dress to be standing still more than hiking.

What to wear: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! Many people like to wear long pants/sleeves to protect themselves from the sun, dirt, and things that might make you itchy (mosquitos, etc.). Avoid cotton when you’re able to and go with a synthetic material or wool. Also remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen!

What to bring in your day pack: 2 Water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, extra layers (long sleeve shirt, fleece) and also bring your waterproof jacket- weather changes quickly, make sure to come for cooler/wet weather

  • Must bring your own camera, tripod recommended but not necessary.  Geared toward DSLR; any camera welcome!
  • Something to kneel on might be nice (such as a small tarp, foam matt, garden kneelers).
