This will be a moderately strenuous hike covering a bit over 3 miles round trip.

Your geologist will review the basics of rocks and minerals, simple identification skills, and dive into how to interpret the geologic history of an area using your observation skills.  No previous geology education required and all levels of interest are welcome to explore and learn about Mad Creek and Routt County geology along the hike!

Tread of Pioneers Museum guide and fourth generation Routt County native, Cheri Daschle, will share stories and history of the Mad Creek area including the Mad Creek Barn, the Mad Creek Guest Ranch and the Heintze family and homestead. Artifacts and historical photos are sure to make this tour extra special.
